Falling in love with the breed in the early 80's we bought Toffee, Silver Lady Of Huntinghill, who was a super show girl for Rachel, a great hunting dog who worked so well with our English Springer Spaniels and a lovely little person to live with - to see the first Whippet at Huntinghill please use Toffees link button.
Next came Fudge, Deneslie Lady Donna (S.B.N), bred by Dennis Hopkins in 1985 by Ch. Cottonmere Monty Of Oakbark ex Denelsie Sweet Romance. A super little parti girl, she did well in the show ring and also produced the first litter of Whippets at Huntinghill - see Depha (Huntinghill Lladro Longing) in our picture gallery. She also proved herself to be another lovely bitch to show in breed and handling competitions for Rachel. She achieved some lovely placings at all levels of shows.
Following in her footsteps was Queenie, Denelsie Snow Queen (S.B.N) again bred by Dennis in 1986 by Oakbark Mister Blue ex Denelsie Sweet Romance. Queenie entered the show ring by winning B.P.B at The Whippet Club Championship Show, held at Biscester, beaten for BP by the then young Capo Di Monte. This white & fawn parti bitch was so well constructed and curvy but a very reluctant show girl which was a great pity as I think she could have gone further.
The young Capo Di Monte went on to be a superb Champion male who I really wanted to use on Fudge. On speaking to Frank he was more than happy for this mating to take place but sadly he died just before she came into season. But Molly, Franks wife, kindly let me use him as Frank had been keen to see the outcome of this mating so just before Capo left the country the deed was done......and along came my beautiful Depha, Huntinghill Lladro Longing (S.B.N), one of those 'very special bitches'. A pale creamy fawn and white particolour she was born in 1989, was a real joy to live with, a real joy to show and a real charactor all in one bundle.
Depha went on to produce two litters for us, the first by Ch. Oakbark Mister Wonderfull from which we kept Huntinghill Spellmaker, Rachels darling Freddie, and Huntinghill Shenanigan, Star (see their pictures in our gallery). Sadly we lost Freddie at 18 months old to a serious illness, this horrendous event left us wanting to give up but thanks to June Minns along came Wizard, Juneric Poetic Justice For Huntinghill, to try and fill the sad place left by Freddie.
Now there is another story.........Mr Wiz was the total extrovert at Huntinghill, even in his old age, and a larger than life charactor. He was Jazmins best friend & with him as a veteran we saw her introduction into the showring - see them both on his page on this website. Wizard, or Mr Wiz to his friends, had the most wonderful temperament, was a total idiot even at 15 years old and was also the best friend of Ethan, Jazmins little brother, what a superb introduction to dogs for the pair of them, having a totaly devoted four legged friend. He is so very sadly missed by us all.
By now we have started the 1990's..................................................................
Dephas second litter was by Walkabout Warspite at Huntinghill and from this union we showed Ruby, Huntinghill Made In Heaven, for a period of time along with her father before starting on the exciting mid '90's era of showing, and having such fun, with Wizard and Xsara, our most beautiful Champion bitch. Sadly unable to breed from Xsara we totally enjoyed showing her until her retirement from the ring, she then became the 'queen' at home until we sadly lost our beautiful girl.
Along came Cally, Juneric Midnight Caller For Huntinghill who although was awarded her SBN, did not really enjoy the show ring so is now retired to playtime & sofa resting.
And then to the future with the youngsters, Chelsea & Joe, who are now well documented on this website and have given Huntinghill such pride in their show ring success but are also, most importantly, are absolute joys to live with.
Following on in their paw steps were the new kids on the block, The Mr & Miz litter, please follow their link to see their pictures on this website. Dennis the menace, or Huntinghill Mr Mischief, is now owned by Jazmin and they have a few pages on this website so whilst they are busy enjoying themselves in the show ring, and outside of it, Rachel and I are enjoying ourselves by introducing Chelseas babies to the art of showing................Alfie & Luna who have been kept at Huntinghill, alongside Louie, Dexter & Bee. For their news and photographs see the puppy pages on the website.
We have, of late, enjoyed our showing days at Crufts and starting in 2008 Joe was awarded 3rd Special PD with Chelsea 1st Special PB & BPIB. In 2009 Chelsea was awarded the RBCC and Joe 1st Mid LD with 2010 seeing Chelsea taking the BCC, what a superb year that was for us at Huntinghill. Only Dennis attended in 2011 taking 2nd Special JD & 2012 saw Alfie taking 1st Special PD & BPD, Luna shortlisted in Special PB and Louie taking 3rd Special JD, unbeaten puppy.
